Why Japanese?

I chose to study Japanese at Columbia University because it is a language that I have always wanted to learn.  My mother's side of the family is of Japanese heritage, and they all speak the language fluently.  I would like to be able to understand and participate in their conversations.

As I have mentioned in my previous blog post, I am from Hawaiʻi.  In Hawaiʻi, where tourism is the main industry, Japanese is also a language of practical benefit.  Most businesses in Hawai'i look specifically to hire people with Japanese-speaking ability.

So i also can speak a little bit of Chinese. My hobby is to read books with any genre. If you know some books, please recommend to me.
